
Cardinal Renato Martino is an italian Cardinal born in Salerno. He hold a Doctorate in Canon Law and speaks several languages.
After his studies Renato Martino entered in the Vatican’s Diplomatic Service and was appointed Nuncio in different countries.
In 1986, he was appointed Permanent Observer of The Holy See to The United Nations
Along his career he hold many important positions particularly in serving as John Paul’s II Official Representative in multiple international Conferences as:
Internatonal Conference on Population and Development,
World Conference on women in Beijing.

In 2007, in the Annapolis Conference on Holy Land, he has led high level
contacts with both sides Israeliss and Palestinians to help them in resolving problems in The Holy Land.
He resigned in October 2009, but remains member of some Vatican’s Administrations as Pontifical "Cor Unum" for the Human and Christian Promotion.
Cardinal Renato Martino is a member of the Honorary Board of International Coalition for the Decade for a culture of Peace and Nonviolence.
