Andrea Riccardi born in 1950 in Rome (Italy).
In 1968, Andrea Riccardi, student, founded the Sant’Egidio Community with help of a young students group which aim was to spread and to listen to The Gospel, referring to the First Christian Community and St Franciscus of Assisi. They were united by the same Spirituality, Prayer, and Gospel.
In 1981, Andrea Riccardi is appointed Professor in History and Religions at the University of Rome.
He is strongly involved in :
Solidarity with the poor,
Commitment for Peace and Justice with the Sant’Egidio Community.
Since its foundation sant’Egidio Community has known a great development and has become famous to the Public over the world. Actually it is made up of 70.000 members spreading in 70 countries and expanding on the five Continents.
Andrea Riccardi was awarded by several Foreign Prizes (USA, Japan, Germany).
Andrea Riccardi is member of the Honorary Board of the International Coalition for the Decade of a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence.
