Samuel Kobia born in Miathene, Meru (Kenya).
He is a Methodist Clergyman. He studied Theology at St. Paul’s College (Kenya).
1972, He obtained a Diploma of Church Service (Urban Ministry) from the McComick Theological Seminary (U.S.A.).
1978, A Master of Art of Urban Planning from Massachussets Institute of Technology (U.S.A.).
1993, He received the title of Doctor of Theology from the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis (U.S.A.).
2003, Joseph Kobia was elected General Secretary of The World Council of Churches and took his new post in 2004.
2005, Joseph Kobia rejected the anti-zionism against the World Council of Churches and had nevertheless been critical of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories.
2009, Joseph Kobia resigned and the Norwegian Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit was elected as General Secretary of The World Council of Churches.
Samuel Kobia is member of the Honorary Board of the International Coalition of a Culture of Peace and Non-violence in favour of the Children of the World.
