Adolfo Pérez Esquivel born in 1931 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1980.
He is engaged in favor of non-violent movements in Latin America. In 1960, He began working with Latin American Christian pacifist groups.
In 1974, he was chosen as Coordinator General for a network of Latin American based communities promoting the liberation of the poor through non-violent means.
In 1976, He created the "SERPAJ" (Service, Peace and Justice Foundation) which serves as a major instrument for the defense of Human Rights.
SERPAJ is a Member of the International Coalition for the Decade.
Adolfo Perez Esquivel was arrested, imprisoned and tortured for his involvement as a peace activist.
While incarcerated he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1980 for his efforts in the defense of Human Rights.
