The Committee, taking up the United Nations incentives and appeals, pushes educational institutions to increase efforts to spread non-violence and peace education.

The first initiatives which have been undertaken are:

The drawing up of a specific Resolution to be submitted to the Local Administrations (Municipalities and Provincial Councils) which binds them to encourage the spreading of a non-violence and peace culture;

A bill, to be submitted to the local Members of Parliament, aimed to assign resources, by means of the Regions, to non-violence and peace education;

Furthering the Campaign for the creation in Italy of an "International Institute for Peace Research and Conflict Resolution". This campaign has already reached tangible results, including the three Bills submitted to the Italian Parliament.

The ultimate and ambitious target - through the combined efforts of similar Committees in other countries and thanks to the initiatives of several international agencies, especially the UNESCO - is to set up a project of an INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR A CULTURE OF NON-VIOLENCE AND PEACE FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, to be submitted to the UN General Assembly by the end of the Decade. In other terms the Committee intends to start a process similar to the one which led to the "Convention on the Rights of the Child".

The Committee has settled its operational secretariat c/o the Movimento Internazionale della Riconciliazione (branch of Padova).
