Celebrating and observing peace was the UN General Assembly’s wish when they adopted in 1981 (Resolution 36/67) an International Day of Peace. This special day is celebrated the 21st of September since 2001 (Resolution 55/282).
Furthermore, in 2007 the 2nd of October has been proclaimed as the “International Day of Non-Violence”.
These international days of ceasefire and non-violence aim to strengthen the ideals of peace and to soothe tensions. They are part of the dynamics of the “International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010)”.
